JOSE SARIÑANA

Jose Sariñana (B.1976, Durango, Mexico), Los Angeles, CA-based since 1979, is a multidisciplinary artist who takes a provocateur stance to make art that conceptually folds onto itself through the use of humor and an assemblage process in pursuit of a poetic realization. His art explores the poetics/connections/randomness of urban violence, racism, art-history, gang graffiti, personal histories, surreal texts, love relations, kink practice, and political critique. He received his BFA (1999) from the University of Southern California, an MFA (2004) from the San Francisco Art Institute, and a fellowship to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2006).
